This work is chosen to mark the centennial of World War I. When the German assault on Paris lay much of the city in ruins, the Byzantine edifice of Sacré-Coeur stood almost unmarred. The scene of perseverance in the face of evil inspired Henri Mulet to compose ten “sketches”, each reflecting on a unique aspect of the awesome basilica.
